Blog Post 1: Mystic River

Mystic River resulted in the death of an innocent man due to complicated secrets that were interweaved throughout the entire film. Every character kept secrets from one another which led to confusions and blames put in the wrong places, however, Dave's secret was of good intent. Dave murdered a pedophile in order to help a boy escape (whom he confused with a young Dave). It was not specified why he kept this a secret, as many would think it is more acceptable to murder a criminal rather than a young girl, but as he's said many times in the movie, his "head gets messed up sometimes." Dave is the only one who murdered to help someone; Jimmy murdered for revenge, the boys murdered for hatred, jealousy, and fear of getting in trouble. Dave is the sole protagonist in the movie, the only one whom is innocent, and the only person deserving of forgiveness. Dave was interrupted in his life as a child, not being able to enjoy a normal childhood, and then after returning to a somewhat normal-lifestyle, was again interrupted in adulthood by death. Dave was never able to fully enjoy life. He was the sole person that murdered without malice in his heart. Dave was a pure soul and deserves forgiveness after suffering for his whole life. Though he was not alive to experiexe the gratification of being recognized as a hero for stopping. a pedophile, he did not die in vain. Dave's was the only secret that was fully revealed and done with good intent.
