Lysistrata #1

The impact that women have so far is shocking. Lysistrata wants organize and have woman from all over Greece come together as one. She holds a meeting that not many show up to. Before the meeting starts she is conversation with Kleonike about her meetings purpose. Kleonike is in disbelief of Lysistrata's plan against the men. The was Kleonike talks about how women aren't capable of doing anything of that nature and that they are only made to be around the house doing things, dressed up, or used. Kleonike says "Glamour is our only talent. All we can do is sit, primped and painted, made up and dressed up..."(18).

I feel as though this still relates to society now a days. Women are more vulnerable to these type of gender roles. They are though of as being in the house cleaning or sprucing the house up in some way while the men work and contain the power. Lysistrata suggests that the women take control and take away something the men can't resist. She wants the women to come together and refuse sex with their husbands. Not only will they be doing something beneficial for themselves but, attempting to save Greece from fighting and war. Lysistrata explains, "So effectively that not one husband will take up his spear ahainst another" At that point Kleonike is persuaded that Lysitrata is correct in her way of thinking and gives a smart remark made earlier about no women showing up to her meeting.

  1. Women today are still stereotyped and placed in the kitchen/motherly role. Lysistrata had known that the men of Greece had viewed women in this same light, and also as a sexualized object that could be used for any males sexual desire.Lysistrata had gathered women to work together to restore peace in the town, they used the war tactic of withdrawal, keeping sex completely off limits until peace was made. The women have the power and the drive to show their own strengths and their power. Women have the power to control an army of men by withholding their desires. Peace should be restored quickly.
