Jimmy Markum loses everything but his life in this film leading to his demise. Jimmy had a wife and three daughters who adored him and was living a happy comfortable lifestyle. But deep inside this facade was a darker secret which was filled with deceit, thievery, and murder. The past always shows itself in the future no matter how hard you try to hide it. Katie’s brutal murder was a major shock to the community but everyone handled her death as they should. Annabeth and the children surrounded themselves with friends and family while they let the police do their job. But this was not enough for Jimmy. He wanted revenge. This was his hamartia. He killed Dave without even knowing the truth only speculation. He robbed a child and a wife from there father. He even killed Silent Ray Harris’s father and threw him into the mystic just how he did Dave. He is no better than Katie’s murderer and he realizes that once the deed is done. His life is over. Even if he isn't arrested for his crimes he will have to live with the guilt for the rest of his life, just how Dave had to live the rest of his life with the horrid images from his abuse haunting his memories. This desire for revenge and taking the law into his own hands led to Jimmy’s fall. If he would have just waited for the police to do their job he would be able to live the rest of his life, seeing his children grow old but now he could be doing that through bars.
Good use of hamartia!!Jimmy really was his own worst enemy the whole time. I like how you call attention to the full-circle aspect of Jimmy suffering the rest of his life as Dave did.
